Privacy Policy for bittu
Effective Date: August 15, 2026
Last Updated: August 15, 2026
Welcome to bittu ("we," "our," or "us"), an enterprise registered under the laws of India. bittu provides an AI-powered visual search assistant that allows users to capture on-screen items and discover matching products across major Indian e-commerce platforms ("Service").
We value your privacy above all else. This Privacy Policy explains our strict Zero Personal Data Retention model and describes how data is transiently processed when you use the bittu mobile application and related web services.
1. Summary of Core Privacy Principles
- No User Account or Registration: You can use bittu without creating an account, logging in, or providing personal identifiers.
- Zero Persistent Storage of Personal Data: We do not collect, store, or sell names, email addresses, phone numbers, contact books, device IDs, or precise location coordinates.
- Ephemeral Image Processing: Any screenshot or cropped image you submit for visual search is processed in real time solely to fulfill your search query and is deleted immediately upon completion.
- No Search History Tracking: We do not log, build profiles on, or track your personal search queries or shopping habits.
2. Information We Process and How It Is Handled
A. Visual Search Captures (Screenshots)
When you initiate a visual search using bittu's screen capture utility or Quick Settings tile:
- The selected image snippet is transmitted securely over an encrypted connection (HTTPS/TLS) to our cloud backend for visual analysis.
- Our AI model analyzes the visual features of the image (e.g., color, product type, texture) solely to generate text search queries for relevant retail products.
- Immediate Deletion: The image is held in temporary, transient storage exclusively during query execution and is deleted immediately afterward. Images are never archived, retained, or used to train publicly distributed machine learning models.
B. Device and Technical Information (Ephemeral Only)
To ensure reliable network communication and server performance, standard network request data (such as temporary IP address and user-agent string) may be handled momentarily by our cloud infrastructure routing layer. This data is not linked to your identity or stored in user database records.
3. Third-Party Services and External Links
A. E-Commerce Retailers & Affiliate Disclosure
When you tap on a search result in bittu, you are redirected to third-party e-commerce platforms (such as Amazon India, Flipkart, Myntra, Meesho, or other retailers) either via your browser or their respective mobile applications.
Affiliate Link Notice: bittu participates in standard e-commerce affiliate referral programs. If you make a purchase through links generated via bittu, we may earn a referral commission at no additional cost to you. We do not receive, store, or process your credit card numbers, payment details, shipping addresses, or checkout information; all transactions are processed entirely on the third-party merchant's platform subject to their independent privacy policies.
B. Cloud & AI Infrastructure
Our backend infrastructure is hosted on enterprise-grade cloud providers (such as Google Cloud Platform) utilizing strict access controls, server-side encryption, and automated lifecycle deletion policies to protect transient data in transit.
4. Android Permissions Used
bittu requests only the minimum permissions required to perform visual search:
- Screen Capture / Media Projection: Used solely when you trigger a search to let you crop and select the specific item on your screen.
- Internet Access: Required to securely send the cropped snippet to our API and retrieve e-commerce shopping results.
- Foreground Service / Quick Settings Tile: Used to provide instant, convenient access to the visual search trigger from your Android notification tray.
5. Data Security
All communications between the bittu mobile application and our backend servers are encrypted using modern Transport Layer Security (TLS 1.2+ / HTTPS). We enforce strict security rules ensuring that temporary buckets cannot be accessed publicly.
6. Children's Privacy
bittu is a general audience shopping utility and does not knowingly collect or solicit any personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under 18 in relevant jurisdictions). Because we do not collect personal data from any user, no child data is ever harvested or stored.
7. Regulatory Compliance (DPDP Act India & Global Standards)
Because bittu operates on an ephemeral, zero-data storage architecture without collecting Personal Identifiable Information (PII) or maintaining user registries, we operate in full alignment with India's Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023, the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect functional improvements or legal requirements. Any modifications will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" revision date.
